Easter 2008

After going to church with Nana and mommy and daddy, we met grandma at The Wildflower Cafe for brunch. No one expected it to SNOW!! After brunch, we headed home for a little bit to see what the Easter Bunny left for us and to take a nap before heading to Aunt Donna's or at least that was the plan. I however had other ideas and decided a nap was NOT what I wanted. Mommy and daddy tried getting me to lay down with them but that didn't work either. They even put one of my movies on the laptop and tried to get me to watch that. Silly mommy and daddy...I wanted to play and nana was in my living room! Finally mommy had had enough of me and Clare not napping...oh did I forget to mention that Clare didn't want to take a nap either. Mommy decided to head up to Aunt Donna's and take the LONG way. Clare and I were both asleep before she even got on the highway! We of course had a fun time at Aunt Donna's once we woke up some but it was a long ride home for mommy because Clare was NOT happy about being in her carseat and cried for nearly 5 miles....I was good though...I slept.

Purina Farms

Purina Farms is so much fun. Even though it is quite a drive to Grey Summit, MO it is definitely worth the trip. In addition to all the animals we saw, we also saw a dog show. Those jumping dogs were amazing! I think one of the best parts of the day was the picnic lunch mommy, daddy, Clare and I had in the car before heading back home. (Mommy thought there were going to be picnic tables but there weren't any were you could bring your own food so we got to sit in mommy's car and eat. Mommy held Clare and daddy held me on his lap...yes 4 people in the front of the car. Good thing we are all small!)

Suson Farms

Since I love animals so much, mommy and daddy decided to take me to Suson Farms one Friday when daddy didn't have to go to work. I loved seeing the horses, the cows, the goats, the pigs, the geese and especially the baby bunnies.

SLU Easter Egg Hunt

Since Mommy is an alumni of St. Louis University, she discovered that they have an Easter Egg Hunt for the children and grandchildren of alumni and what kind of mommy would she be if she didn't take Clare and I to our first Easter Egg hunt? She didn't quite count on it snowing and being so windy in March but oh well, I had fun anyways. Clare on the other hand...well you can see for yourself, she was NOT happy about being cold!

Road TRIP!

On Wednesday, March 12th, mommy and daddy loaded up the car with all of our suitcases and Clare and myself and we were off to Kansas City, MO so mommy could attend a Women's Health Care Symposium (whatever that is) and daddy could spend time with me and Clare. It was a LONG trip. We stopped in Columbia to grab a bite to eat at Wendy's before arriving mid afternoon at our hotel. Mommy and Daddy were exhausted but not ME! I wanted to play after being in the car all day. After mommy (!) got all the luggage in (who knew being gone for 3 days and 2 nights required so much stuff--I'm sure mommy wishes she would have taken pictures of the bellhop thing loaded with 3 suitcases, a pack n play, and at least 3 other bags!), Daddy called his friend from KC, Jim. After talking to him for awhile while Clare and I watched Einsteins, we headed down to the hotel restaurant. Did you know that I have decided that I am too big for a highchair AND a booster seat? It has made life quite interesting for mommy and daddy but FUN for me...hehe. Mommy ended up taking me on multiple walks around the lobby while we were waiting on my food. I LOVED my mac and cheese though. After dinner, we headed back up to our room where daddy gave me a bath while mommy got Clare ready for bed. I loved splashing in the tub and getting water everywhere! Once I was done in the tub, I climbed up on the bed with mommy and daddy and watched my Word World DVD and my Einsteins DVD. Mommy and Daddy had to lay with me until I fell asleep, then they padded me in since I was sleeping in a queen bed ALL BY MYSELF!. Mommy hardly slept since she was so worried about me falling off the bed. I did just fine though.

On Thursday we got up bright and early so mommy could get to her conference. She left Clare and me with daddy while she hopped on the hotel shuttle and headed to Crown Center. Once daddy got Clare and I dressed, we ordered room service since daddy was NOT going to attempt breakfast in the restaurant again by himself. After breakfast, daddy packed Clare and I in our stroller and headed outside to walk to the library for story time. We arrived late so we missed story time but we got to explore the cool library. I had fun looking at the cow and the cityscape the was set up. After the library, we headed over to Winstead's for some yummy burgers and cherry limeaid. After lunch it was back to the hotel for naptime. I of course did not want to take a nap but did manage a little snooze next to daddy. It was then off to meet up with mommy so she could feed Clare, however Daddy managed to get lost in Crown Center or maybe it was mommy who was lost, so Clare missed out on a feeding. Oops. When we finally found the hotel where mommy was at, mommy was almost done for the day, so daddy and I got to play some hoops since everything was set up for the Big 10 conference games that was in town that weekend. When mommy did come down to meet us, I did not want to leave, but mommy told me we were going to the Crayon cafe and store. A whole store of crayons...wow! After walking over all the covered bridges, we arrived back at Crown Center. We found the Crayola store and I was amazed at all the things there, but alas I was tired and hungry so mommy and daddy decided to cut our visit short and grab some food at the cafe. Daddy decided to get me some cheese sticks but I had more fun eating daddy's onion rings and the ice cream that mommy and daddy got me for dessert. After dinner and a trip to the Hallmark store, we attempted to find our car in the garage. Once we found it we headed back to the hotel for bedtime. Mommy got Clare ready and Daddy got me ready. Once I was out of the tub, mommy left. She had a conference call to make for school so daddy was left in charge of getting me to sleep in the bed all by myself. He did a good job and after a couple of Einsteins and WordWorlds, I was out.

In the morning, we were up bright and early again thanks to Clare this time. Daddy started loading the car while mommy got us dressed then mommy was off to her conference. Daddy, Clare and I stayed at the hotel for a bit but then met up with daddy's friend Jim at Winstead's again for lunch. After lunch where I was a complete MONKEY, we headed to pick out mommy and head home. I fell asleep in the car but woke up when we stopped to get mommy some lunch. We had to make 2 stops on the way home, once so mommy could feed Clare and then again for dinner. I wasn't happy about not being able to get out of the car the first time so I was THRILLED when we stopped for dinner. I was so happy when we got home and I'm sure mommy and daddy were too. In fact, I think daddy may have even carried me off to bed and I didn't wake up once!

It was a long 3 days but I can't wait until next year. I hear that we are going to take the train!

Wow we did this way back in February (I think) and I'm just getting around to blogging about it. Oops!

Since we hadn't seen Lisa, Tim, Meghan and Ernie since before Christmas, we had to get together and exchange Christmas and Birthday gifts. We met at the Incredible P.izza Com.pany or something like that on a Saturday afternoon. If you have never been, it's a one time experience and that's it. It is crazy in there! There are multiple rooms to sit in (we sat in the auditorium where Blues Clues was playing on the BIG SCREEN), so much food I didn't know what to do, AND games, gocarts, bowling, and mini golf. Yes you read that right, there are go-karts INSIDE of this place. It was all a little overwhelming for Clare and me but we had fun anyways...well at least I did! Mommy and Daddy were glad to go home! They even had a little kiddie area with an inflatable house, some rides, and my favorite was the car on the track...which of course are the only pictures mommy took while we were there!

Living in St. Louis

You never know what kind of weather to expect. Some days it is in the 30s and the next day it is in the 60s. Well on one of those 60 degree days mommy decided to have a popsicle and I of course had to have one too. Now if you remember, my last popsicle adventure ended in a bath since I managed to cover myself from head to toe in popsicle juice. I was determined this time was going to be different....

AKA What was mommy thinking? Yes Mommy bought me finger paints for when Clare is napping. At first I wasn't so sure about paint on my hands but then like any little boy, I LOVE getting paint on my hands, my face, my shirt, my legs, you name it, I'm sure I have managed to get some paint on it. Mommy especially loved the paint in my hair. Oh well, it washes out and it is so much fun! You know that this milestone couldn't pass without mommy taking some pictures!

Or something like that. I have learned how to clean off the table when we are done eating. First I clean off the plates in the trash and then I put them in the sink or in the dishwasher. Today it was a sink day since the dishwasher was already full. I wonder how old I have to be to start getting paid for doing chores? (Oh wait, mommy just said, I do get paid into my college fund every month...hmmm)

The Zoo

So after breakfast, mommy, daddy, Clare and I braved the cold and walked quickly around the zoo. We got to see the sea lions get fed, the penguins and some bears. I kept saying 'more bears, more bears please' Mommy and daddy thought that was pretty funny. I was NOT happy about leaving the bears behind.

On a cool winter morn, Mommy, daddy, Clare and I went to the St. Louis Zoo for breakfast with the Easter Bunny. We met up with our friends Lisa, Tim, Ernie and Meghan while we were there. I had so much fun watching all the fish, seeing all the 'animals' and sitting on the Easter Bunny's lap! Unlike Meghan, I didn't cry at all!

So if you haven't heard, I have a tent for my bed nowadays. You see, I really like climbing out of my bed. However landing on a hardwood floor--OUCH! Mommy and daddy decided the day that I climbed out of my bed at 5:45am and when daddy came running in and I asked for my Santa book, it was time to do something. Off we trekked to mommy 'favorite' place-Babies R Us and we came home with a crib tent. I wasn't so sure of it at first but once mommy and daddy told me it was a tent, I LOVED it.

Kiley Ellen and Josef Martin were born to Kierstin, Brian and Evelyn today. Mommy got up really early (before the sun was even up) to be in the delivery room with Kierstin, Brian, Kiley and Josef. Another semester is over so that means graduation time at The Little Gym. It is also called Show Week. Not only did mommy and daddy get to watch me but so did Grandma Florence. That means a visit to Dr. Rezabek. Dr.Rezabek is very happy with me and says I am doing great. Mommy kept telling me I was going to see Dr. Rezabek and I told her that he was going to look in my eyes and my ears. When the day came though, I wasn't so sure. I didn't want to see how tall I was or how much I weighed but when Dr. Rezabek came in, I let him check me out without any tears. Then mommy held me, and I knew something was coming. SHOTS! I got 2 but I barely cried especially since the MA put some cool stickers on them that lasted all of 2 minutes until I decided I wanted them OFF. Here are my 2 yr old stats:

Weight: 37 pounds 6 ounces
Height: 3 feet 3 inches (39 inches)
{If what they say is true, I could be 6 ft 6in as an adult....hmmm can anyone say basketball?}

Mommy and Daddy started a new tradition with Clare and I this year. The weekend before Christmas we ventured downtown to Macy's to see Santa and the famous windows.

Santa's Lap

I like to visit Santa Claus When Christmastime is near. It's fun to climb up on his lap And whisper in his ear.

He says, "My dear, have you been good? Have you done what Mother said you should? Do you brush your teeth and hair each day? Are you kind to others when you play?

I listen to each question And answer every one. Although I am ashamed to say I must say no to some.

I have discovered these cool toys at the mall. Mommy puts money in them and I get to pretend I'm in a car, spaceship, trolley, train or helicopter. I love to ride in them and I get very upset if mommy walks past them without letting me get out and ride on one or two or all of them! Mommy thinks she is being sneaky by only letting me ride in one but I have to sit in all of them anyways.

My favorite is the train but it wasn't working. Here's me in the spaceship and in the trolley.

Mommy and Daddy took me to the dentist for the first time last week. Even though I wouldn't let Dr. Wood count my teeth, I did go for a ride in the chair with mommy. Dr. Wood said to keep brushing my teeth, so here's some pictures of me doing just that!

My friend Ernie's sister turned one this week and we went to her birthday party. Ernie has some really neat toys especially all his TRAINS!! I had fun playing with them even though we didn't share them very well all the time. Sometimes I wish I had more words so I could have told everyone how I felt, but since I don't know the words yet, I sometimes pushed and hit Ernie instead. I hope he knows that I was sorry and I hope that we get to play together again soon!

Sorry I don't have any new pictures to share though...Now that mommy has the new camera she FORGETS to take pictures of me (but don't worry, she doesn't take many of my sister either so I don't feel left out) and the pictures she took using the old memory card won't download so mommy doesn't have any halloween pictures of me trick or treating. :(

It's been a busy time for me. Since my last real update was in October, I have so much to tell you. Halloween was a busy day for me! After we took daddy to work, we went to storytime at Barnes and Noble where I got to eat a snack, listen to Miss Christine read me a halloween story AND go trick or treating around the store. Then we met mommy's friend Mandy for lunch since she hadn't seen me since I was only just 1. When we got home, mommy tried to lay me down for a nap but I had other ideas! There were so many things to do why would I want to take a nap?? After Clare woke from her nap mommy dressed us up in our costumes and took us to the library to see daddy and his coworkers. Marc and his mommy was there too! I made sure everyone saw me and Clare. People said we were the cutest pirate and cow that they had ever seen. Then mommy, daddy, Clare, Mike, Cheryl, Marc and I all went to dinner. I was pretty cranky until I heard mommy and daddy mention treat or treating. What's that? Candy you say? I get candy. Oh I need to be on my best behavior! After dinner, mommy, daddy, Clare and I went into the mall where I had my first trick or treating experience. I didn't say trick or treat but I did make sure to tell everyone thank you (sank you) for all the yummy candy. After the mall, we went to Grandma's house and while mommy fed Clare, daddy took me over to see his old neighbors. I got to play a little bit with their puppy too. When we finally left grandma's I was so tired that I fell asleep in the car BUT don't worry I woke up to watch BLUE'S CLUES when we got home. It was a long day but it was so much fun! I can't wait to do it again and maybe next year mommy and daddy will let ME eat some of the candy instead of taking it to work and hiding it.

November has also been busy busy. Mommy went back to work per diem so daddy has to get Clare and I ready for bed and in bed while mommy's gone. Most of the time he does a really good job but sometimes I have to give him a hard time and make it difficult for him. But he STILL manages to get me into bed on time. I don't know HOW he does it! Mommy, Clare and I have also been going to story time 2x a week. Most of the time I sit and listen to the story but occasionally I like to get up and go explore instead. I also have been practicing going on the potty. Some days I really want to try and other days I want nothing to do with that silly potty chair. It's much more fun to put the lid down and climb on in then to sit on it. One scary thing that happened was that mommy thought I had sprained my wrist. You see we went shopping and I decided to help mommy push Clare in the cart instead of sitting in it and mommy was holding my other hand and I went one way and mommy went the other and then my elbow started to hurt really bad but I didn't know how to tell mommy so I just decided to cry and not use it. Well of course that really worried mommy and when we got home, mommy called Dr. Rezabek. While she was waiting for the nurse to call back she put some ice on my wrist and rubbed my elbow. That made it feel a lot better! By the time the nurse called mommy back, I was using my arm like nothing had happened. It turned out that I had something called nursemaids elbow. I hope I don't get that again because it hurt!
Thanksgiving was so much fun! After mommy, daddy, Clare, grandma and I went to church we came home for a few little snacks and a nap before taking the trek to my great aunt's house. Mommy filled my plate with lots of yummy food but all I really wanted was the macaroni and cheese. I even got to sit at the kiddy table to eat. I had so much fun playing with all my cousins and seeing everyone! Mommy and Daddy say that Thanksgiving is a time to say thank you for everything I have so here's my list of things I am thankful for:

Today Miss Amy, my Parents as Teachers educator came to see me. For the first time ever, I wasn't sure what to think of her. She wanted me to do a bunch of things but I wanted to be close to mommy. I would do things for mommy but not for Miss Amy. Miss Amy tried to do the Ages and Stages Questionnaire but at the beginning I didn't want to cooperate to much until she showed me her blocks and all her cool toys. Then I had no problems playing but after a little while I was ready for Miss Amy to leave and I made sure she knew that! I heard Mommy and Daddy and Miss Amy talking about the terrible twos. I don't know what's so terrible about them, so far they seem pretty fun to me! ;)

Well I think that's about it. I promise I will try to post more frequently and definitely upload some pictures soon!

On Saturday mommy,Clare and I met my friend Marc and his mommy at the zoo for Boo at the Zoo. We got there when the zoo opened but there were so many people there already! Instead of going trick or treating in the zoo, we (ok the mommies) decided to take us to the Children's zoo where we got to see frogs, birds, rabbits and GOATS. After Marc,Clare and I (mostly I) played with the goats, we went to ride on the ZooLine Railroad. I love riding on trains and waving to people. When we got off the train, we went and made Clare a hippo named Bella and had some lunch. Then if that wasn't enough excitement,we went to Borders for storytime and to go trick or treating throughout the store. I wasn't too interested in the candy, but I did want the crayons! Then after Borders, we went to see daddy at work and show off Clare and my costumes to all of daddy's co workers. They all agreed that I made a very cute pirate and that Clare was a very cute COW.

This time mommy took me Crestwood Park. I had so much fun swinging. I really wanted to play on the playground but it rained the night before and everything was WET and mommy wouldn't let me. Mommy, Daddy, Clare and I all met my playgroup at Rombach's Pumpkin Patch on the 14th. Can you believe that it was 80 degrees!! I was HOT as a pirate so mommy made sure to get some pictures of me before she took off most of my costume. I had so much fun looking at the pumpkins, riding the pony, seeing all the farm animals and riding in the barrel train (all by myself!)

I have so much blogging to catch up on but NO pictures to show for it. You see, our digital camera broke earlier this week and we hadn't downloaded the pictures yet. I took the media card to good ole Walgreens to make a CD however because there were video files on it, they couldn't make a CD. :( The manager told me she would try to play around with it, but couldn't make any promises. However have no fear, the new digital camera arrived today (my early birthday present). Pictures will be forthcoming, but until then...bear with me as I recount the last couple weeks.

In September, we went with our friends, Tim and Lisa and their 2 kiddos to the balloon race at Forest Park. We learned from last year to get there early and we did. It was great. Thomas and Ernie (who are 8 months apart) had fun creating noodle art and nibbling on the samples. They also got to ride a pony and let me tell you what little cowpokes they looked like! We sat on the hillside and had a picnic lunch while watching the balloons inflate for the photo contest. (Note to self: Remember to put sunscreen on BEFORE going next year! Luckily Children's Hospital was there and had some that they were giving away so Thomas got covered for the most part and Clare remained shielded by the carseat and stroller, Mommy and daddy on the other hand were a different story. We were both quite red for church on Sunday.) Thomas was asleep before we were even to the car so he missed the Hare takeoff. It just goes to show how much fun he had!

Thomas has also decided that he is too BIG for his highchair and so we made the leap to a booster seat. He loves it and I'm sure the dogs do as well since he is now closer to them and can feed them what he doesn't want!

Thomas loves to color as well and we just discovered he loves to finger paint! Whoever created the Crayola magic wonders line is a pure genius! It has been a godsend both at home and at church!

The most exciting thing has also happened in the last week-Thomas has used the POTTY!! Yes you read that right...our 21 month old is starting (?) to get potty trained. I'm definitely NOT rushing him although can I just tell you how nice it would be to only have to buy 1 pack of diapers instead of 2???? He so proud of himself when we goes and even does a little dance when he hears the music of the potty chair after doing the deed.

In my quest to visit area parks, mommy, daddy, Clare and I went to Suson Farm and Park after church on Sunday. I wasn't quite sure what to think of all the animals. I really liked looking the the goats and pigs. The cows and horses were stinky!

Mommy and Daddy took me to Build a Bear this weekend so I could make a bear for Clare. Originally I was suppose to go with mommy on August 18th so I could make one to take to Clare in the hospital, but as we all know, Clare decided to make an early arrival and mommy and I didn't get to go!

I had fun picking out a bear for Clare, stuffing it, giving it a bath,

and naming it. Can you guess why I named him TJ? I loved him so much that I didn't want to let the lady put him in a bear house. I hope Clare likes him as much as I do!

Simpson Park wasn't as fun as some of the other parks we have been to...they didn't have any swings and most of the slides were way too big for me. :( I did get to go down one of the slides over and over again and daddy even let me go on the swirly slide all by myself...although mommy was holding my hand on the side. I did have fun picking up sticks in the field though...

After Simpson Park and before Clare got hungry, daddy drove us to Lone Elk Park. At first I thought it was going to be a bust because he kept taking short cuts to get us out of the park sooner but just as we were getting ready to exit, we finally saw some ELK! Can you believe how close they are? (and no mommy and daddy didn't have to use the zoom..they really are that close to the car.) We got to see a mommy and baby elk cross the road right in front of US! I could barely see all the elk though because they were all on Clare's side of the car and it's hard looking over her car seat to see out the window. I heard daddy tell mommy that we would have to come back so maybe they will be on my side of the car next car and MAYBE we can see other animals....

Little Gym Open House

I love the Little Gym and I was so excited that they had an open house!! I got to play on the air track and hang on the bars. I even did a flip over the bar with a little help from mommy! My most favorite part though was seeing the SLU billiken! I couldn't get enough of him. I kept going over to him to say hi and to shake his hand and give him five. I guess mommy going to SLU while she was pregnant with me made me a billiken at heart! GO SLU!!

I walk along holding your 19-month-old hand, basking in the glow of our magical relationship. Suddenly I feel a kick from within, as if to remind me that our time alone is limited. And I wonder: how could I ever love another child as I love you?

No, Thomas is obviously not a year old, but it has been exactly one year since we started Thomas on an official routine! And it has been the best thing ever. We have Heather to thank for introducing us to the sleep lady. Even though our lives are more or less dictated by Thomas' naps and bedtime, I wouldn't have it any other way to have the happy go lucky boy. So thanks again Heather for introducing us to Kim West and let's keep our fingers crossed that it works for Clare as well.

Today we remember names like Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Franklin. We honor their courage and we honor their vision on the 4th of July. Father's Day...

Today was Daddy's second Father's Day. While Daddy was getting ready for church, Mommy and I sneaked into the bedroom with his presents and cards. We got him some Bach...whoever THAT is, and a picture frame with my picture on it that says, "I get my good looks from my daddy!" (Mommy thought it was pretty funny since EVERYONE says that I look like daddy except great grandma!) He loved all his gifts! Then we went to church with Grandma, and went to brunch. Later, mommy and daddy went swimming with me. I didn't believe them at first when they said I had done that before. But it was a lot of fun splashing around. Then after some dinner, we went to hear the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra perform an outdoor concert. It was fun, but I wanted to roam and check out who was blowing bubbles from the other side of the park. It was a great time, but I was dog gone tired after that. I feel asleep in the car and the next thing I knew it was morning and I was in my crib at home. Hmmm...how did that happen???

On Tuesday, mommy and I watched Baby Meghan while her mommy and daddy were at work. At first I wasn't sure WHY she was at my house and wanting to play with MY toys, but eventually I figured out she wasn't leaving anytime soon.

On Sunday, mommy, daddy and I went to Grant's Farm for the first time this season with all my playgroup friends. I loved riding the tram and looking out at all the animals. I even tried to feed the goats, but those silly goats don't know how to share and they kept trying to push me over! I also saw some guinea pigs, turtles,chickens, ducks, elephants,some camels, llamas and a lot of birds! Daddy even fed the chickens and ducks which I thought was very funny.
